In celebration of the 36th anniversary of Black History Month, Nike Tennis has created a collection made exclusively for tennis star Serena Williams. Nike selected apparel and footwear designs with an eye toward recognizing the inspiration and spirit that the 1996 USA Basketball Women’s team, the 2002 Brazil Men’s Soccer team, and the 2008 Kenyan Long-Distance running team each bring to their home communities and integrated them into a collection to be donned by their star next month at the kick-off of the tennis season in Australia. The 2012 Black History Month Collection for Williams includes the Nike Sportswear BHM Destroyer Jacket, a Nike BHM Seasonal Knit jacket, a Nike BHM C72 Bag, and the Nike BHM Air Max Mirabella 3, each with an eye-catching, traditional color pattern reflective of traditional African designs. Get a sneak peak at the collection after the jump.
